FAQ
What percentage of my donation goes to the project?
We desire integrity in all aspects of our actions. As good stewards we consciously accept responsibility for those things that have been entrusted to us, therefore financial accountability and transparency are imperative to us. We try to keep our administration low-cost so that we can channel maximum donated funds to project countries. Copies of our financial statements are available on request. We guarantee that 90% of your donation will be sent to the project. We levy 10% of all donations for administration costs in New Zealand. If our costs are higher than that we fundraise separately to cover the excess costs. The 10% administration levy on all designated gifts of NZ$5000 or more will be assessed by the ORA New Zealand Board to determine the percentage that is appropriate for administration, with the aim of directing more of the donation into the designated project.
How do I know my donation reaches the project?
We take seriously our responsibility to see that your donation is used effectively and efficiently. We monitor all projects to ensure they are well managed and sustainable. We receive monthly reports from projects to ensure full accountability for money transferred.
Are my donations tax deductible?
ORA New Zealand is registered with The New Zealand Charities Commission under our legal name Orphans, Refugees and Aid of New Zealand Charitable Trust (registration # CC24875). However, as we only fund projects overseas we have not qualified for IRD Donee status. We are actively exploring possibilities of ORA New Zealand attaining donee status.
Can I volunteer with ORA?
All ORA New Zealand workers volunteer their time. If you are passionate about serving people in need and seeking justice for the vulnerable, and you have time available, contact us to discuss how you can be involved in our energetic, pro-active, passionate and dynamic team! Together we can discuss the skills you have to offer, the areas you could help in and the level of commitment you are comfortable with. We can provide the support, training and resources needed.
What is ORA New Zealand doing about sustainability?
We ensure that all our projects are sustainable. Our vision is to equip, inspire and empower nationals in project countries to help others in their land; together working towards a sustainable future. It is important to us that projects we support will one day no longer need our help and that they value the environment both as God's creation and as an essential basis for life.
Who administers ORA New Zealand projects?
ORA New Zealand projects are administered by nationals in the project countries. We take seriously our responsibility to see that your donation is used effectively and efficiently. We monitor all projects to ensure they are well managed and sustainable. We receive monthly reports from projects to guarantee full accountability for any money transferred.
ORA New Zealand is a Christian organisation. Do you try to convert people in project countries?
ORA International is a Christian organisation. We aim to see transformation of individuals by providing holistic help for individuals and communities. Consequently, our work incorporates meeting physical as well as intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs. However, the children are not required to be Christians in order to be sponsored. They come from a variety of backgrounds.
